Elite 8 Monday

And then there were 8… After an exciting Saturday and Sunday the 16 teams have been cut in half, and after tonight and tomorrow we will know our Final Four. DraftKings is giving us a 2-game main slate each day with showdowns available for each contest. Another $20,000 will be awarded to 1st place on the main slate and it looks like the Showdown’s will pay $1,000 to first on each. I don’t know about you, but $22,000 seems like a nice way to start the week!

As for tonight’s games it starts with Houston and Oregon State at 6:15 and wraps up with Arkansas vs Baylor. Oregon State, a 12-seed, is the lowest seeded team remaining in the tourney and is a 7.5 point dog. The Razorbacks are also 7.5 point dogs to Baylor. We have all the plays outlined below, so dive into the research and build those perfect line-ups! Small slate means we have a slim margin for error with our construction! Good luck, Bucketheads!

Houston -7.5, (129) – 6:15

Oregon State v. Houston

The Beavers unexpected journey continues tonight as 7.5 point dogs with an over/under south of 130. No surprise on the game total, as Oregon St. plays in the 300s in tempo and Houston is a lock down D. That doesn’t bode well for Ethan Thompson (G, 7400). While he is their primary usage player offensively and has 30+ DK in 5 of his last 6, he’ll likely have Jarreau guarding him and he’s priced up a bit. He could sneak out a 4x but has no ceiling in this matchup. Warith Alatishe (F, 6900) is an elite rebounder but his lack of offensive firepower limits his upside. Jarod Lucas (G, 5400) is the designated shooter for the Beavers. He’s very scoring dependent, but keep in mind Houston is top 10 in 3-point FG% defensively. Roman Silva (F, 4800) came back down to Earth last game after a hot start to the tourney, but still saw 28 minutes if you are looking to get lucky. Zach Reichle (G/F, 4300), Gianni Hunt (G, 3600), and Maurice Calloo (F, 3500) round out the rotation for the Beavers if you need a desperation punt play. I know it’s a short slate, but I generally avoid rostering players against Houston’s elite D.

Oregon State’s defense has carried them thus far and they are holding teams to 30.4% 3-point shooting on the season, so it doesn’t profile well for Quentin Grimes (G, 8200). That said, his price is fair and he’s going to take 15 shots as the offensive alpha on this team, so I think he’s in play in tourneys. Justin Gorham (F, 6400) got priced back up a bit. We loved him at $5500 but at $6400 he’s probably looking at a 4x ceiling. DeJon Jarreau (G, 6200) looked fully healthy and will be one of the highest owned players on the slate after almost dropping a triple double last game. Marcus Sasser (G, 6000) had 4 steals last game, which certainly adds to his scoring upside. I prefer Jarreau for $200 more, but Sasser can hit 4x at this price point. Tramon Mark (G, 4700) is best suited for tourneys only as the freshman is still inconsistent, but he’s a long athlete that can do a bit of everything. Fabian White, Jr. (F, 4500) has been a big boost to this Cougar team since coming back from a knee injury. He’ll play less than 20 minutes and the game environment isn’t great, so he’s a GPP option only. Brison Gresham (F, 3900) is a bruiser down low with sub-10% usage, so generally less upside than White but he could see 20 minutes as well and has some block upside. The Beavers like to foul, so we could see some extra points from free throws for the Cougars tonight as well. Hopefully for their sake they can shoot them better than Alabama did yesterday.

Houston -7.5, (129) – 6:15
Baylor -7.5, (148.5) – 8:57

Arkansas v. Baylor

The nightcap of Monday’s action has the higher total as Vegas has these two teams nearing 150. Arkansas will want to push tempo in this game, but Baylor is elite defensively. Justin Smith (F, 8000) is the highest priced player in this game after going 4x in his last 5 with a 7x in there from the opening round. One of Baylor’s few flaws is that they can give up second chance attempts, so Smith is in play despite the price. Moses Moody (G/F, 7800) is typically the Razorback to target, but he has had a rough tourney and this isn’t the game to break out. Jalen Tate (G, 6500) on the other hand has thrived in 2/3 games, but priced up $1300. I am probably looking elsewhere. Davonte Davis (G, 5700) is going to be a safe cash option, and has to be playing with confidence after hitting the game winner versus Oral Roberts. JD Notae (G, 5100) only got 13 minutes last game, but the Razorbacks will need him and Jaylin Williams (F, 4200) to make bigger impacts tonight if they want to keep this game competitive.

The Bears are playing well and playing balanced thus far in the tourney. Jared Butler (G, 7700) hasn’t needed to smash, but he is capable of 40 DK. Davion Mitchell (G, 7200) and MaCio Teague (G/F, 6700) are both live options due to the pace. Mitchell has a safe floor, while Teague has a little more GPP appeal. I find it difficult to choose between Mark Vital (G/F, 5300), Matthew Mayer (G/F, 5000) and Adam Flagler (G, 4900) but this decision is where the entire tourney may be won or lost. One of these three will go 5x, but who? The true forward spots remain a revolving door for Baylor with Flo Thamba (4100) and Tchamwa Tchamwa (3800) playing minutes in the teens. Neither are engaged enough offensively to consider.

Baylor -7.5, (148.5) – 8:57

Prize Picks – 3/29/21

Jared Butler

Baylor

He has had a relatively quiet tournament, but in this pace-up contest I think we see a breakout game from Jared Butler. He goes OVER 29.5 fantasy points.

– Joe

Ethan Thompson

Oregon St.

Kind of a weird one here, but slim pickens on a 2-game slate. Jarreau is elite defensively so I could see ET being more of a facilitator tonight. If Oregon St. shooters can make a few shots, I think he can go OVER 3.5 assists in the single stat category.

– Byrd

Moses Moody

Arkansas

Baylor has the best perimeter defense in all of basketball. Moody has struggled, even recently, against tough D’s (see: Texas Tech, Mizzou). Therefore, I think he’ll go UNDER 29.4 fantasy points tonight.
